Landscaping and property maintenance in Clevedon

Eight and a half miles north on the coast, Victorian, hilly, and exposed to the Channel.

About 9 miles from Winscombe

The ground in Clevedon

Clevedon is a Victorian seaside town built over and around Church Hill and Dial Hill, which is an unusual combination for this area, coastal and steep at the same time. Gardens on the hills are terraced, often behind old stone walls that were built before anyone drained behind them properly, and those are the walls that bulge.

The Victorian housing means high boundary walls, narrow side accesses, tiled paths and original stone that a modern replacement will not match unless it is chosen carefully. Repointing an old wall with the wrong mortar traps water in the stone and does more harm than leaving it alone.

Being on the Channel it takes the same salt wind as Weston, so fixings, timber and finishes all need to be specified for coastal exposure rather than for a sheltered inland garden.

Questions from Clevedon

Do you cover Clevedon?

Yes. Clevedon is about 9 miles from Winscombe in a straight line, well inside the 20 mile radius Tom works to.

Does a quote cost anything?

No. Tom comes out, looks at the job and gives you a price, and there is no charge and no obligation for that. If the job is not worth doing the way you have described it he will tell you that too.

Do you take on small jobs?

Yes, particularly close to Winscombe where there is no real travel on it. A gate rehung, a patio repointed, a fence panel put right. Further out a small job is harder to justify on its own, so it is worth grouping it with something bigger.

Is it you doing the work, or a team?

It is Tom Nyamunda. One person on the job from the first visit to the last barrow out, which is slower than a gang but it means the person who quoted it is the person who built it.
